Red Wing's cedar boot trees are shaped around the brand's iconic boot lasts — designed to fit the No. 23 last of the Moc Toe and Shop Moc Oxford, the No. 43 last of the Iron Ranger, and the other last profiles used across the full Red Wing range. A spring-loaded split-toe design maintains tension in the upper as the boot cools after wearing, preventing the leather from setting in creased or collapsed form.

Aromatic red cedar draws moisture from the leather lining and the insole over the course of several hours after each wear, reducing the humidity generated through a full day's use. This slows the internal breakdown that causes leather to deteriorate from the inside — the part of the boot least easily conditioned or replaced. The cedar's natural aromatic properties also suppress odour development in the lining over extended periods of regular use.
