Red Wing Iron Ranger Boot 8083 - Hawthorne Muleskinner

The 8083 presents the Iron Ranger cap-toe design with the rough side of the leather facing out. This inversion of the hide — known as roughout — produces a napped, matte surface that does not polish, does not buff to a shine, and does not show scuffs. It simply absorbs wear and becomes more individual with every day it is used.

Hawthorne Muleskinner is a heavyweight roughout leather produced at Red Wing's own S.B. Foot Tannery. It is one of the more demanding leathers to break in — the No. 43 last is already firmer than the Moc Toe's No. 23, and the Muleskinner adds further stiffness. The result, after several weeks of wear, is a boot that fits with exceptional precision and holds its shape over years of hard use.

Roughout leather should not be polished with standard creams — use a mink oil or neatsfoot treatment applied sparingly to nourish the hide without flattening the nap. Goodyear welted and resoleable; built for a lifetime of honest service.
